Whether you’re in the middle of a job, preparing to undertake a new partnership or getting geared up for the spring season – now is a great time to refresh yourself on the most important part of the job: safety.
When in Doubt, Call 811
At some point, a job will require you to break ground. Regardless of whether it’s a deep dig or a surface-level project, it’s critical you dial 811 first (ideally, you’d do this a few days before the job begins). Buried underground are important lines, cables, and pipes vital to water, electricity, and gas that, if disrupted, can be dangerous to the work area as well as local residents and the community at-large. To avoid unforeseen hazards and financial challenges, dial those three simple numbers first.
It’s free and you’ll be routed to a nearby call center with information on the buried lines near your job. From there, you’ll work with a dedicated staff to determine next steps and get connected with other key stakeholders.
In addition to a safe jobsite, it’s also important to understand safety regulations for employees. Staying up-to-date with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) helps you understand how to protect yourself and your team. Work together with your team to do training, outreach, education and assistance.
As a professional contractor, you’re in constant contact with heavy equipment, small tools, outdoor weather conditions and more. Being knowledgeable not only protects the team, but also your rights. To learn more, visit https://www.osha.gov/doc/index.html.
At The Home Depot Rental, we believe in the safe use of equipment and the safety of all individuals in the workforce. Together, we can create jobsites that are safe and secure – enabling professional contractors to do their best job possible. That starts with calling before you dig.
