How to Refresh an Indoor Room with Tool Rentals

Got a space in need of a room refresh? No matter your budget, a few small DIY home improvement updates like stripping old wallpaper or installing a new backsplash can transform a room. The Home Depot Rental has the tools and equipment you need to get it done in a weekend.

How to Remove Wallpaper

Removing wallpaper can be a challenge. Whether you’re doing a full home remodel on a fixer upper or just updating the outdated, the easiest way to remove wallpaper is with a wallpaper steamer rental.

Instead of using messy solutions to strip wallpaper that’s old and brittle, our steamer rental can quickly remove wallpaper of all types using only water. The hose reaches up to most ceiling heights and the tank holds enough water to keep you working up to 3 hours.

The best way to remove wallpaper with a steamer is to fill your rental with water, turn it on and wait for it to boil. Always consult the operations manual prior to using your rental equipment. Scoring the paper prior to steaming can speed up the process even more.

Once the steamer is heated, begin at one corner of the room, place the steamer over the wallpaper and emit steam. Remove the steamer and use a putty knife to scrape the lifted wallpaper. Working with two hands, one to scrape and one to steam, makes quick work out of a tough job.

How to Refresh a Room with a DIY Kitchen Backsplash

The kitchen is the focal point of your home and any home improvements made to this room are sure to increase its value. If you’re looking to make a quick update that adds contemporary beauty without the price tag of a full home remodel, install a DIY kitchen backsplash.

First, take accurate measurements of your kitchen backsplash area and purchase the necessary materials for installing tile like backerboard, mortar, grout, trowels, sponges and tile spacers. You’ll also want to rent a small tile saw to complete the project. Pick up everything you need at your local Home Depot.

Next, clean the area, lay down drop clothes, move any necessary appliances and remove the frames around power outlets with a power drill.

Beginning with a 2-foot section, mix and apply the mortar to the wall spreading a thin layer with your trowel. Place the tile onto the mortared wall working your way upward and outward. Insert tile spacers to keep the tiles lined up. Your tile saw rental will come in handy to make clean cuts for corners, power outlets and switches.

Allow the tile and mortar to dry completely before mixing and applying the grout. Wipe the tiles clean of any mortar dust and remove the spacers. Apply the grout and use a sponge to shape the grout joints. Let dry and consider adding a grout sealer for further protection.

Easy Home Improvement Updates on a Budget

Removing wallpaper and a DIY kitchen backsplash are only two small home improvement projects to take on with The Home Depot Rental.
