6 DIY Backyard Ways to Have Fun

Posted by: Samuel Hirshfield on July 10, 2013

The following is for people that have exhausted all the fun out of their backyard or at least would like to improve the fun factor. Are the kids quick to jump on the offer of "go play outside?" Well they should be! Here are 6 easy ways you can make your backyard the neighborhood hangout for you and your kids this summer.

1. Create an outdoor movie theatre.

Easy permitting. You will need a projector, a large sheet to project on, and blankets to keep the bugs away. Finding Nemo, anyone?

2. Make a clothesline tent.

No clothesline required, though. You can manage without one by tying a simple rope from tree to tree. Add your sheets and viola, your enchanting canopy hideaway awaits!

3. Build a tree fort.

Or at least something that resembles a tree fort. Anything to do with kids and trees is basically a win, so why not capitalize on it, Dad? You can create a treetop retreat for way less than you would spend on a pre-assembled jungle gym. Your kids and their neighborhood friends are certain to be impressed. Need help transporting materials? Try renting a Dump Trailer from your local Compact Power Equipment Rental.

4. Repurpose anything.

Find whatever has been collecting dust in your garage and make something out of it! A headboard into a shabby chic old dresser into a container gardern. What will you create?

5. Light up your yard.

Turn your backyard into a relaxing refuge at night by adding some unique DIY lighting. These ideas are cheap, fun, and can really add that modern touch.

6. Go camping.

It would be nice to get away to the great outdoors, but sometimes that’s just not an option. Don’t deprive yourself and the family the fun of camping out. Have a campout in the backyard! You can thank us for the invaluable memories later.

How will you make your backyard awesome this summer?
